Q. Will the GIST application work on the BlackBerry Bold and Curve models?
A. The current BlackBerry version of the Cisco GIST application is designed only for the Storm at this time. We do plan to add enhancements to this version throughout the year, however, we do not have any near-term plans to develop a version for the Bold or Curve models. If we do develop versions of the application to support other BlackBerry models, we will publish notifications at www.ciscopulse.com as well as the Blackberry Application Storefront (when it opens to consumers).
Q. Does Cisco plan to offer a Windows Mobile version of the Cisco GIST application?
A. We do not have any current plans to develop a Windows Mobile version of the application. We do plan to add enhancements to the iPhone and BlackBerry versions throughout the year.
Q. The application needs to be extracted—how do I extract a file?
A. If you are using Windows OS or Apple OS-X, you need to download and install a compression utility that will unzip files (a “zipped” file has simply been compressed it into a smaller version of itself). A compression utility is worth downloading (and some PCs/laptops systems are pre-installed with this type of utility). Many files on the Internet are in a zipped state. You can download a free evaluation version of WinZip. There are also other free compression utilities available online. Once the beta BlackBerry Storm file is unzipped, you will be able to extract all of the necessary files and install/use the application.
Q. When I try to download Cisco GIST for the BlackBerry Storm, my device indicates that my network operator doesn’t support this test—what is this?
A. The Cisco GIST application is designed for worldwide use on the Blackberry Storm. However, we cannot guarantee that every network provider will support the application. BlackBerry Storm users who do not have a data services plan with their mobile operator may experience difficulties with this beta application.
Q. When I try to download the BlackBerry VNI file (GIST.zip) using my mobile device, I am redirected to the installation instruction page—how do I resolve this?
A. If you are attempting to download the VNI file from your BlackBerry Storm, you may be missing the hot link in Step 1 – Download the file GIST.zip. We have received feedback that some users are not able to see or access the hotlink button from their BlackBerry Storm devices. This may be resolved if you perform the download from your PC/laptop instead and then upload the VNI file to your mobile device.
Q. When I run the speed test for the BlackBerry Storm, I receive a “CONTENT ENCODING ERROR”-what is this?
A. The beta version of the Cisco GIST application for the BlackBerry Storm requires a connection to the Internet and the ability to download data from a web server. Some cellular plans may not support this application. If you're having issues with the GIST application, please contact your service provider to find out if your plan supports connecting to a web server. We are aware of some “content encoding” issues in limited regions and are actively investigating possible remedies.
